What is Homework Club?
Homework Club is a program designed to increase homework completion and help students enhance academic success. Students who miss homework assignments will be assigned to the Homework Club and be given an opportunity at lunch to work under the supervision of a staff member. Students will stay in the Homework Club for their entire lunch period, hopefully completing the assignment. Students are allowed to bring their lunch from home to Homework Club, or a brown bag lunch can be ordered and purchased from the cafeteria.
Procedures
- Classroom teacher’s periods 1-4 will check for homework completion during class.
- Teacher will fill out a 3 part Homework Club slip for each student who does not have their homework completed. One copy will be kept by the teacher, the student gets a copy and the teacher sends a class set of copies to the office secretary during periods 1-4.
- The office secretary will create a spreadsheet/roster of students who will be attending Homework Club during each lunch period.
- By mid 4th period, the secretary will send to the cafeteria manager the number of brown bag lunches needed for each lunch period.
- Instead of going to lunch, students will bring their Homework Club slip, along with the assignment to room 146. HMS staff members will monitor each student’s progress in Homework Club. During that period, students will work to complete the homework and eat lunch.
- The work the student completes during lunch is attached to the Homework Club slip and returned to the teacher’s mailbox by the Homework Club monitor.
- If the assignment is not completed during lunch, the student can be assigned again for the next day.
- Class periods 5-7 will follow the same procedure with the student attending Homework Club the following day during lunch.
